Full Service Rules, Regulations, Requirements = Ramifications

1:42 pm

And here is a good example of what mail service providers are up against.  Here is a list of the updated Guides and Specifications, hundreds of pages that mailers are expected to master in order to present Full Service mailings:

‘To support the current release through PostalOne! Release 25.0.0 on November 7, 2010, the following guides are updated and available for review at RIBBS

eDoc Process: A Guide for CPP Customers
Postal Service Mail.dat® Technical Specification
Postal Service Mail.XML® Technical Specification for Postage Payment & Reporting (eDoc)
Postal Service Mail.XML Technical Specification for Appointment Scheduling (FAST)
Postal Service Mail.XML Technical Specification for Profiles; Full-Service Feedback”

Something to fill your Holiday beach reading list…better not wait until October to plan to implement.

PostalOne! Release 25 for November 2010 – Proceed With Extreme Caution!

1:42 pm

The DMM Advisory yesterday had a notice about PostalOne! Release 25, which willl deploy on November 7, 2010. Then there is a list of the key features of this release -”features” that mailers and mail owners had better thoroughly understand prior to diving into the deep and murky Full Service Intelligent Mail waters.
These include:
“Deploy a process for verifying Intelligent Mail® Full-Service electronic documentation.”

What this means is, if there is an error, any error, no matter how tiny or insignificant, there is risk of losing Full Service discount. This is a troubling liability for mailers trying to comply with a myriad of rules and specifications.

“Fees will be charged by Full-Service ACS. Billing for ACS® records when the same record was provided more than 60 days prior for Full-Service Periodicals and more than 95 days prior for Full-Service Standard Mail® and Bound Printed Matter. Full-Service ACS Billing will also charge for records delivered when Full-Service Service Type Identifiers are in the barcodes but they do not match the eDoc. In this case, the fees are chargeable for all classes of mail.”
What this all means is similar to what I stated above.  In this case, make a mistake, neglect to update an address, etc., and “Free” ACS could get a whole lot more costly, and will be very difficult to monitor.

International Shipping and Packaging

5:52 am

There are some points that an auto transport company would require you to do before your car could be transported. Following are some guidelines that will help you in order to prepare your vehicle for transport.

You need to be presented when Neighborhood Parcel inspects your vehicle before shipping. You further need to sign a bill of lading as well as report on the vehicles condition. This would be done both before car shipping of the vehicle and before your vehicle reaches its destination. Of course, it is only your benefit to be at the inspection place, but in case it is possible do have a competent relative or any of your friends to be present on your behalf.

Official Word – USPS will Begin Signing Bills of Lading Again

9:03 pm

The Postal Service is revising Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, Domestic Mail Manual (DMM®) 705.15. 2.14 to clarify that PS Form 8125, Plant-Verified Drop Shipment (PVDS) Verification and Clearance, is the sole source of evidence for USPS® purposes of the transfer of the custody of pieces entered as a mailing at the time of induction; to clarify that Postal employees may, upon request, sign additional nonpostal documents when presented by transportation providers; and to require segregation of documentation presented at the time of induction.

Postal Explorer Federal Register Notice

This is a great example of a successful outcome when both the USPS and the Industry listen to each other with an open mind.  Kudos to all of the mailing associations, including NASML, the USPS, and to all of the MTAC leadership that helped to get this accomplished!

Ohio Boaters Recycle Shrink Wrap Film and Save Landfills

4:29 am

Boaters are recycling used shrink wrap film all around Ohio.

According to ToledoOnTheMove.com, boaters are finding a new way to dispose of the shrink wrap film used to protect their boats during the winter, they’re recycling it! A recycling program created by the Ohio Clean Marinas Program and Mondo Polymer Technologies spares landfills of the massive amounts of shrink wrap film that comes from boaters at the beginning of the boating season. About 100 marinas around Lake Erie participate in the program, with various marinas acting as drop off points for the plastic material.

The cost-effective and eco-friendly way for boaters to dispose of their shrink wrap film started in 2006 and has since recycled over three-quarters of a million pounds, which ToledoOnTheMove.com points out is equivalent to a landfill space of 16 school buses.

But what happens to all the shrink wrap film after it’s collected? It becomes guardrail blocks on Ohio’s highways, much more useful than being piled up in a landfill!
